What do the Trustees of Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust do?
Our Trustees are the guardians of our charity, working together to ensure Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust fulfils its charitable purposes and delivers on its mission and vision. The Trustees do this by steering the Trust's direction and overseeing the work of our Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Our Trustees come together regularly to receive a report from the CEO, to discuss and agree issues of strategic importance, and to ensure the charity is being run effectively. Meetings are held as hybrid sessions so Trustees can attend remotely or in-person.
Our ambition is to have a diverse and engaged Board of Trustees that's representative of the community we serve - the community that includes you!
Why become a Trustee?

Nicola Berry
“I became a Trustee to understand the reasons for the decline in wildlife locally, and what we can all do to reverse it. I’d urge you to join us - I don’t think you’ll regret it.”

Tim Ward
"As someone with a lifelong interest in nature, I've always admired the work of wildlife conservation charities. With the current challenges to the environment, and the consequential impact on biodiversity, the activities of these charities have never been more important - and they need all the help and support we can give them!"

Clare Boyes
"My work experience from my job in the NHS gave me specific skills that could be useful, and I volunteered because the Wildlife Trusts need Trustees with different skill sets to help progress their work."
Tim McVey
"As a Trustee, I discovered we are part of a vibrant movement, learnt about nature and all its threats and successes. I feel we're making a difference, at least in our beautiful part of Wales."

Jane Storkey
“I applied to join MWT as a Trustee wishing to continue my longstanding passion for wildlife conservation, and find it very rewarding. I fervently believe that by working together as a team to take positive steps for nature, we can make a difference!”

Nick Burton
“I was a volunteer on a Trust project which became the Friends of Deri Woods. When the MWT staff member who was meant to attend our first committee meeting was unable to make it, rather than sending a junior member of staff or nobody at all, Clive Faulkner, the CEO, came - I thought, who wouldn’t want to be involved with an organisation that takes that approach?”
Qualifications
No formal qualifications are required to become a trustee. First and foremost, we just need your time, commitment and enthusiasm. Whether you realise it or not, you almost certainly have other skills and experience from life and work that would be useful to us.
What sort of time commitment?
You can give as much time as you wish, but the minimum is around 20-25 hours a year. We hold a full council meeting every 2 months, each lasting approximately 2 hours. These are held in the evenings and are hybrid so you can join remotely or attend in-person at our Welshpool office. Preparing for each meeting might take another hour (such as reading the CEO’s report and compiling your questions). We also ask that you attend the Trust's Annual General Meeting (AGM).
