Project Update March 2025
Local people of all ages have learnt about nature and around 150 wildlife homes have been created over the past 12 months thanks to partnership project, Learn and Build – Working Together for Nature, with Llanfyllin Shed.
Funded by National Lottery Awards for All, the year-long initiative has seen us work with local community groups, such as Berriew Brownies and Camp Plas, to engage people in learning about nature by building wildlife homes - a mixture of bird, bat, insect and hedgehog boxes.
“Over the 12 months we’ve reached out to hundreds of people who I’m sure have enjoyed the experience and have learnt something at the same time,” says Gary, Shed Member.
“[I’ve] loved working with the children and seeing how interested they were in the project,” adds Gill J, another Shed Member.
Not only have participants learnt how to care for nature and their environment and gained some basic woodworking skills, many have taken creations home to install in their own gardens, providing additional space for nature in Montgomeryshire!

An exciting new partnership project with Llanfyllin Shed (formerly Mens' Shed) called ‘Learn and Build - Working Together for Nature’ will see us working with local individuals and communities to see people taking action for nature while gaining practical skills.
Thanks to an Awards for All National Lottery Grant of £10,000, Learn and Build - Working Together for Nature combines the skills of The Shed, along with the knowledge of Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust, to promote the protection and conservation of local wildlife.

Twelve awareness-raising events will be held across the year, working with local community groups and attending local events. Members of Llanfyllin Shed (also known simply as 'The Shed') will come with flat-pack wildlife homes for people to build, alongside an MWT staff member who will talk about the different birds and animals these creations will provide habitat for.
Each participant will learn how to care for nature and their environment, as well as gaining hands-on basic woodworking skills.

Running from 1st April 2024 until 31st March 2025, the project has the potential to reach out to hundreds of local people, giving everyone involved a sense of community, local pride and belonging, while making positive changes for the environment and conservation.
